Go visit your local comic book shop and get your free comics!
Hello Family,
I sincerely hope you are doing well—and if not well, then at least maintaining and hold it together as best you can.
Bringing you a tiny bit of good news today. Saturday, May 3, 2025 is Free Comic Book Day! This is a national event in which various comic books are available for free at comic book shops across the country. To find your closest local comic book shop, please visit the Comic Shop Locator: HERE.
Researchers say that because of the way comic books and graphic novels blend art and dialogue, they help to develop children’s reading comprehension and also help instill a love of reading, I started reading on my own at age 4 because of comic books. Literacy is more important than ever now. Getting children to read for pleasure (or read at all) has become extraordinarily difficult due to competing media technologies. This is potentially dangerous because a child who cannot read can be easily fooled as reading is where critical thinking is developed.
So be sure to come out for Free Comic Book Day. And bring the whole family!

While we’re on the subject of comic books, I want to take an opportunity to introduce you, for those of you who might not know him, to my homeboy, Taurin Clarke.
Raised in the bricks of Brooklyn, Taurin has been drawing since he was young, but got put on later in life, after enduring some things and paying some dues. And now, he’s right where he’s supposed to be: slaying the game.
In an industry where most artists never get Black people’s hair or hairstyles right, Taurin is an expert in making sure niggas’ fades and line-ups are correct. Exhibit A: Patriot’s cut:
Quiet as it’s kept, Taurin is the dopest cover artist around and I think you should know his name. He’s a real one despite being a Star Wars fanatic (says the Trekkie for life. LOL!). One of my dreams is to write a comic that Taurin would be willing to draw. But my dude is mad shy and super-humble, so I don’t know if he’ll do it. But a brother can dream.
To keep up with Taurin’s latest projects, and to know when to purchase his art when it hits comic book stands, follow him on social media at:
Or visit his website: HERE.
Be sure to seek out Taurin’s work online or in stores. Below are some of my favorite pieces he’s drawn. Enjoy!
