(The Prophets Is Coming to Brazil on August 18, 2023!)

English translation:
Dear family,
I am pleased to announce that The Prophets will be available in Brazil on August 18, 2023!
Introducing the memory of enslaved people in current history with pride and dignity is an urgent and ethical duty. In The Prophets, Robert Jones, Jr. takes this task upon himself and performs it with extraordinary mastery and talent.
Isaiah and Samuel are enslaved youths who live on Empty, a plantation in the interior of Mississippi. They love each other with the vigor of puberty and the strength of their African ancestors, who would consider the love between two men just one more, among so many beautiful and legitimate ways of loving.
Danger stalks them when Amos, enslaved elder, converts to Christianity. Proselytizing and interested in personal advantage, he makes the preaching of the Gospel a means of exposing the young men. As if that weren't enough, Timothy, the young heir to the manor's domain, returns to the manor house and, although he has a finely secular education and habits, he also comes between the lovers.
Isaiah and Samuel are left with the discreet protection of the older slaves, Maggie, Essie and Be Auntie, who appreciate silence and secrecy. But from the decay of Empty, they know, there is no one who can break free.
Robert Jones Jr. tells the story of that tragedy so sublimely and intensely as to be brutal. His writing combines two greats of African-American literature: on the one hand, James Baldwin's sensitivity in interweaving the drama of sexual dissent and racist stigmatization; on the other, Toni Morrison's astuteness in representing the experience ― not only individual, but generational ― of being or having been enslaved. The result is a unique prose that captures a new politics and poetics of the origins of the world we live in.
